The easy way to answer this is simply to say that most of the time what I use is an exotic wood such as one of these fine beautiful specimines:

Bacote

Zircote

Rosewood

Cocobolo

Wenge

Tulipwood

African Blackwood (usually I always know this one)

Purpleheart

Redheart

Zebrawood

Padauk

Bubinga

Tigerwood

...etc

Trying to identify wood is so very tricky so unless I'm 100% sure what it is, I'll just say it's an exotic.

The majority of the time it is also all reclaimed, unless I need a particularly large piece for something. However, that has yet to happen as exotic woods can get fairly pricy.

Working with exotic woods is always a wonderful adventure and sometimes what might at first looks like a boring block of brown, once sanded and finished and all polished up, suddenly it's this gorgeous work of art with beautifuly intricate grain lines.

That part of the reason why I love working with reclaimed exotic woods. Because then I get the bits of curly wavy intricate live edge bits that would have otherwise been thrown away.
